Objective, To evaluate the effectiveness of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hor
mone analogue when administered preoperatively in hysteroscopic metrop
lasty. Design, Prospective, comparative study. Patients and main outco
me measures. Sixty patients undergoing hysteroscopic metroplasty for s
eptate uterus who were randomly allocated to pretreatment with two inj
ections monthly of Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone analogue or to no pr
etreatment, To assess the outcome of surgery three parameters were use
d: operative time (minutes), fluid adsorption (mi) and intraoperative
bleeding. Results. No significant differences in the operating time (2
1.9 vs 22.9 min), fluid adsorption (395 mi, range 200-550 vs 515 mi, r
ange 250-650), intraoperative bleeding and failure rate were found bet
ween pretreated patients and controls. Conclusions. Preoperative treat
ment with Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone analogue showed no advantage
in hysteroscopic treatment of mullerian defects, but only an improveme
nt, not statistically significant, in term of reduced operative time a
nd fluid adsorption.
