The present review confirms the existence of the so-called ''ovarian-d
erived prorenin-angiotensin cascade''. It also describes the physiopat
hology of the system and, consequently, its role in the genesis of phe
nomena concerning reproductive function such as ovulation, steroid syn
thesis and folliculogenesis. Moreover, the ''ovarian-derived prorenin-
angiotensin cascade'' appears to play an important role in the aetiopa
thogenesis of diseases such as ovarian tumours, ovarian hyperstimulati
on syndrome and ectopic pregnancy.
