As a result of several investigations it was concluded that the heavy
broad-breasted turkey, bred all over the world, has serious constituti
onal disorders such that, from an ethological consideration, it is not
possible to keep these birds under conditions which fulfil their need
s. It is therefore important that breeding efforts, which may result i
n pathological changes and which cannot be rectified by management and
housing systems, should be considered with respect to the ethical and
legal aspects.
