S. Gomber et al., PERINEPHRIC ABSCESS (PRESENTING AS ABDOMINAL-PAIN) DUE TO LISTERIA-MONOCYTOGENES, Annals of tropical paediatrics, 18(1), 1998, pp. 61-62
A 5-year-old malnourished child was admitted with a 1-week history of
paroxysmal abdominal pain. Evaluation finally revealed a left-sided pe
rinephric abscess caused by Listeria monocytogenes. The child was succ
essfully treated by drainage of the abscess and antibiotic therapy. Re
nal abscess should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of ab
dominal pain, and Listeria, an unusual pathogen, should be considered
as a possible aetiology.
