Abstract
The use of the methyl acetate molecule as the guest has provided a nov el mineralomimetic cadmium cyanide host Cd(CN)(2) framework with space group Pnma, which is more distorted than the analogous low temperatur e form of cristobalite with space group P4(1)2(1)2. The novel clathrat e Cd(CN)(2) . MeCO2Me 1 crystallized in the orthorhombic space group P nma with a = 8.497(4), b = 9.167(4), c = 12.571(4) Angstrom. The novel host framework is an example of a mineralomimetic Cd(CN), framework w hich would suggest the possibility of a SiO2 framework similar to 1.
