Rjd. Tilley et Rp. Williams, SHIFT-LATTICE DESCRIPTION OF SOME FACE-CENTERED-CUBIC ALLOY SUPERSTRUCTURES - PART 1 - ONE-DIMENSIONAL STRUCTURES, Journal of materials chemistry, 8(3), 1998, pp. 775-780
Both metal atom components of a number of binary alloy structures, mai
nly occurring in the Au-rich region of the Au-Mn system, have been ana
lysed as shift-lattices. It is shown that both atom types lie upon sep
arate complementary shift-lattices. All the structures can be reproduc
ed by a smooth variation of the shift-lattice parameters. Those found
experimentally form only a small set of the infinite family of commens
urate and incommensurate structures which can be constructed via the s
hift-lattice method. The diffraction patterns of these phases can read
ily be derived and the relationship of the diffraction patterns observ
ed to the separate components from each of the contributing shift-latt
ices is described.
