En. Dolgina et al., CLINICOIMMUNOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF N EUTROPENIA COURSE IN CHILDREN TREATED BY INTERFERON PREPARATIONS, Gematologia i transfuziologia, 42(6), 1997, pp. 21-27
An immunological investigation was made of 29 patients with various fo
rms of neutropenia and 19 children with neutropenia syndrome resultant
from intrauterine viral-bacterial infection. No relationship was foun
d between the immunological indices and neutropenia form or neutrophil
count in the peripheral blood. Symptoms of immune deficiency manifest
ed in patients with neutropenia syndrome and patients with immune form
s of neutropenia in active viral infection and pyoinflammatory disease
s. The immunological indices were related to the severity of the disea
se clinical symptoms and pathogenicity of the bacterial flora. The stu
dy of the interferon status discovered deficiency of alfa and gamma in
terferon in the blood of the above patients. 23 patients received inte
rferon preparations which promoted rehabilitation of the immune system
, recovery of the interferon status, elimination of the viruses, clean
sing of bacterial infection foci. Neotrophil count in the peripheral b
lood increased, proliferation and maturation of neutrophils in the bon
e marrow enhanced. Interferon and leukinferon may be recommended for u
se in patients with neutropenia to ensure bactericidal activity of pha
gocytes, antiviral defense, prevention of bacterial complications.
