M. Hayakawa et al., APPLICATION OF A METHOD INCORPORATING TREATMENT WITH CHLORAMINE-T FORTHE SELECTIVE ISOLATION OF STREPTOSPORANGIACEAE FROM SOIL, Journal of fermentation and bioengineering, 84(6), 1997, pp. 599-602
A simple isolation method for rare actinomycetes belonging to the fami
ly Streptosporangiaceae was developed, in which a water suspension of
air-dried soil was first treated with chloramine-T (1.0%), a chlorine-
releasing biocide, diluted in water, and subsequently cultured on plat
es of humic acid-vitamin medium. The chlorination treatment significan
tly inhibited the growth of non-filamentous bacteria and undesirable a
ctinomycete contaminants on the plates, thereby facilitating the selec
tive isolation of bacteria from the Herbidospora, Microbispora, Microt
etraspora and Streptosporangium genera.
