C. Kykkotis et al., NEW CONFIGURATIONS FOR INTEGRATED OPTICAL-FIBER-FED RADIO SYSTEMS, Microwave and optical technology letters, 17(6), 1998, pp. 339-345
Future broadband services are likely to involve optical-fiber-fed mill
imeter-wave radio systems, which offer a number of significant advanta
ges. Optical fiber and millimeter-wave radio are capable of supporting
the large bandwidth requirements of these services, and on the other
hand, the low attenuation of the optical fiber provides the best metho
d for the distribution of millimeter waves at present. This paper sugg
ests simple configurations and novel radio molecules for the integrati
on of millimeter-wave and optoelectronic devices which satisfy various
practical issues of the optical-fiber-fed radio interface such as siz
e, weight, and power consumption, reliability, and cost. (C) John Wile
