H. Sorvari et al., CALRETININ-IMMUNOREACTIVE TERMINALS MAKE SYNAPSES ON CALBINDIN D28K-IMMUNOREACTIVE NEURONS IN THE LATERAL NUCLEUS OF THE HUMAN AMYGDALA, Brain research, 783(2), 1998, pp. 355-358
A double-labeling immunohistochemical procedure and correlated light a
nd electron microscopy were used to examine if calretinin-immunoreacti
ve terminals make synapses on calbindin D28k-positive cells. In the la
teral nucleus of the human amygdala, calretinin terminals make symmetr
ic-like synapses on the somata and proximal dendrites of calbindin D28
k-labeled cells. Our data provide the first evidence that neurons whic
h contain two different calcium-binding proteins from synaptic contact
s with each other in the human amygdala. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V
