Sg. Weinrach et Kr. Thomas, DIVERSITY-SENSITIVE COUNSELING TODAY - A POSTMODERN CLASH OF VALUES, Journal of counseling and development, 76(2), 1998, pp. 115-122
This article is the second in an ongoing series devoted to a critical
reassessment of the status of diversity-sensitive counseling. The curr
ent discussion focuses on the use of existing counseling theories and
interventions in a diversity-sensitive counseling context, and potenti
al limitations of affirmative action in the American Counseling Associ
ation's organizational structure and in counselor preparation programs
. Inconsistencies are noted between the strategies now being used to a
chieve diversity and the philosophical foundations of the counseling p
rofession. At issue are the conflicting values of various constituenci
es within the Association.
