Abstract
The stereoselectivity of the formation of macrocyclic stilbenes as wel l as the regioselectivity of their photocyclization are strongly influ enced by the length of the connecting alkanediyl chain. The stereoisom ers of the macrocyclic stilbenes and the corresponding diols are ident ified by chemical and spectroscopic means.
