Abstract
The tertiary rainbow of acoustically levitated water drops was observe d in the laboratory. Nontrivial caustics were observed for relatively small values of eccentricity. The angular locations of caustics were m odeled with matrix methods of generalized ray tracing. Photographs of the scattering were in general agreement with models. Possible effects on the appearance of natural tertiary bow features are discussed. (C) 1998 Optical Society of America.
