The effect of structural and physical inhomogeneity of a polymer blend
on the thermal degradation of PVC in the presence of PMMA was studied
. It was found that the rate of PVC degradation varied, depending on t
he method of blending (coprecipitation from a common solvent, melt ble
nding, solution mixing), The effects observed are related to changes i
n the thermodynamic miscibility of components, phase state of the blen
d, and degree of association of PVC and PMMA macromolecules in samples
prepared using different methods and solvents.
