Abstract
An improved method of preparing two-dimensional surface spreads of pla nt synaptonemal complexes (SCs) associated with fluorencent in situ hy bridization is described. This technique produces clear preparations o f SCs and, in addition, consistently reveals the organization and loca tion of different repetitive DNA sequences in plant meiotic prophase c hromosomes.
