Abstract
This paper represents a theoretical analysis concerning the relationsh ip of the lateral pressure coefficients K-i (between packing and stem) and K-0 (between packing and housing) in a soft-packed stuffing-box s eal, with the result of (K-i/K-0)=(mu(0)/mu(i))(1+2t/d)(4d+3t/4d+5t) T he theoretical values are consistent with the results of the experimen t by W.
