The purpose of the present study is to improve methane conversion for
an HTGR-steam reforming system by recycling of residual methane. The r
esidual methane in a product gas after steam reforming was recycled wi
th a gas separator of polyimide membrane. Gas separation characteristi
cs of the separator were investigated experimentally and numerically,
and an experimental study on recycling system was carried out. The res
ults showed that the recycling system improves apparent methane conver
sion, ratio of methane conversions to methane supply from a cylinder,
from 20 to 32% compared with those without recycling.
