Abstract
Data on the luminescence of the Baikal water medium that have been obt ained with the neutrino telescope NT-36 are presented. The maximum lev el of luminescence and its high spatial and temporal inhomogeneity are observed annually from August to October. This is explained by the no nstationary processes of water inflow from shallow depths with high ve rtical velocities. A case when the velocity of vertical water motion w as equal to 2.3 cm s(-1) is described. The important role of dynamic f actors in initializing the vertical water exchange is underlined.
