Abstract
Dark-green crystals of Li-5[Co-2(III)(LH-5)(2)]Cl . 8 H2O (1) (L = Xyl itol) are obtained from cobalt(II) and xylitol in alkaline aqueous sol ution by oxidation with air. In the homoleptic binuclear dicobaltate(I II) ions, the O-10 set of an edge-shared Co2O10 dioctahedron is provid ed by two entirely deprotonated xylitol ligands.
