Jm. Zen et al., THE APPLICATION OF CHELATING AGENT INCORPORATED POLYMER-MODIFIED ELECTRODES IN THE DETECTION OF TRACE-METALS, Journal of the Chinese Chemical Society, 45(1), 1998, pp. 39-46
The use of chelating agent-modified Nafion(R)-coated mercury-film elec
trodes (CNCMFEs) in square wave anodic stripping voltammetry (SWASV) f
or the determination of trace metals is described. The CNCMFE containi
ng appropriate amounts of dimethylglyoxime (DMG) was applied for the d
etermination of Ni(II), Cd(II), and Cu(II). A similar system that cont
ains 2,2'-bipyridyl (Bpy) was used for the determination of Pb(II). Th
e effect of various model organic substances on the CNCMFEs in SWASV i
s thoroughly explored. The CNCMFEs are considerably more resistant to
organic interferences than the Nafion(R)-coated MFE. The implications
of these interferences for the reliability and feasibility of strippin
g measurements using the CNCMFEs in real samples are discussed. Result
s presented for real samples demonstrate the analytical utility of the
CNCMFEs in SWASV.
