A 46-year-old white female presented with bilateral cystic foveal thic
kening several years after taking 250 mg of chloroquine per day as tre
atment for rheumatoid arthritis. fluorescein angiography demonstrated
no leakage of dye from the cystic foveal lesions and also confirmed th
e presence of a bull's-eye maculopathy. Bilateral cystic foveal thicke
ning may represent a late manifestation of chloroquine-induced retinal
toxicity and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of no
nstaining cystic foveal lesions.
