This paper focuses on the development of a decentralized plantwide con
trol concept for a real existing chemical plant via dynamic simulation
and controllability analysis. The first step includes modelling the p
lant with the dynamic simulation package SPEEDUP(TM). The model is val
idated using data from the existing process. A systematic approach is
applied including heuristic methods in combination with controllabilit
y analysis. The results are compared with the existing control structu
re. Finally, a procedure is recommended for prediction of the dynamic
behaviour of the material recycle.
