Y. Yamauchi et al., A METASTABLE HELIUM ATOM SOURCE DIRECTLY PULSED BY A NOZZLE-SKIMMER DISCHARGE, Measurement science & technology, 9(3), 1998, pp. 531-533
The discharge excited atom beam source we designed uses a trigger elec
trode between a nozzle and skimmer to generate a metastable helium ato
m beam that is directly discharge pulsed. A pulsed discharge current u
p to 200 mA maintained between the needle cathode behind the nozzle an
d the skimmer anode produced an intense pulsed metastable helium atom
beam equivalent to a continuous total flux of 1.7 x 10(15) s(-1) sr(-1
) with mechanical chopping.
