Abstract
Experimental results on collisional-pumped x-ray lasers obtained at th e Institute of Laser Engineering are reviewed. Amplification has been observed over a broad wavelength region from 14 nm to 4.4 nm with Ni-l ike ions of various atomic elements. Atomic number scaling of the Ni-l ike ion x-ray laser; especially with regard to the short wavelength ex tension and efficiency improvement; is discussed. Atomic physics studi ed with high resolution spectroscopy of the x-fag lasers are described .
