M. Cueto et al., PANTONEUROTRIOLS - PROBABLE BIOGENETIC PRECURSORS OF OXYGENATED MONOTERPENES FROM ANTARCTIC PANTONEURA-PLOCAMIOIDES, Tetrahedron, 54(14), 1998, pp. 3575-3580
Pantoneurotriols 1a and 2a are acyclic polyoxygenated monoterpenes iso
lated from the Antarctic endemism Pantoneura plocamioides together wit
h compounds 3 and 4. The stereochemistries of these compounds were est
ablished by spectroscopic methods and pantoneurotriols have been propo
sed as biogenetic precursors of pantofuranoids, uncommon monoterpenes
isolated from the same species. It was interesting to find compounds 4
and 5, metabolites first isolated from Plocanium cartilagineum, in a
species belonging to a different order such as P. plocamioides. (C) 19
