Abstract
An infinite medium consisting of two semi-infinite half-spaces in weld ed contact is considered. The half-space in which the plane harmonic a ttenuating P-or SV-wave is incident, is assumed to be a linearly visco elastic solid. The second half-space, in which the waves are transmitt ed, is assumed to be a micropolar elastic solid. The amplitude ratios for the different reflected and refracted waves have been calculated t heoretically. Numerical values of the amplitude ratios have been compu ted and plotted against the angle of emergence for different values of frequency ratio (omega(2)/omega(0)(2)). The numerical computations re veal that the amplitude ratios of reflected and refracted waves depend on the angle of emergence and frequency of the incident wave. (C) 199 8 Elsevier Science Ltd.
