Abstract
We present a study of the dynamics of trans-polyacetylene chains using an O(N)-scaling all-valence electron tight-binding Hamiltonian. The O (N)-scheme based on a set of non-orthogonal localized orbitals tur-ils out io be capable of efficiently describing tine details in the dynam ics of such large molecular systems. In this work we focus on nonlinea r vibrational excitations as well as on their interaction. Copyright ( C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.
