Abstract
syn 3-Hydroxy aldehydes were obtained with a high level of stereoselec tivity by aldol addition in the presence of TiCl4. The corresponding a nti 3-hydroxy aldehydes were obtained by thermodynamic equilibration i n the presence of titanium(IV) alkoxides.
