Two-parameter discretized log-normal and gamma distributions for the n
umber of nearest-neighbour cells have universal application in the des
cription of topological properties of space-filling cellular microstru
ctures. The coefficient of variation in these topological distribution
s has been found to give a useful measure of the degree of the disorde
r in a specific microstructure.
