Abstract
Modifications of the equation of unsteady transonic flow are investiga ted, which avoid the drawbacks which arise when using the transonic ap proximation (the Lin-Reissner-Tsien equations) and other equations of unsteady transonic flow to describe transonic hows. Several problems c oncerning Bows of this kind (the stability of transonic Bows, the form ation of unsteady shock waves and the mathematical modelling of flows) are solved.
