Abstract
A two-parameter integral equation of the first kind with a difference periodic kernel, to which a wide range of periodic problems of the mec hanics of continua with mixed boundary conditions can be reduced, is i nvestigated. For the two main versions it is converted to a singular i ntegral equation, which can be effectively solved using many well-know n approximate methods. In a special case closed solutions of the initi al equation are obtained. Antiplane contact problems for an elastic pl ane and a cylindrical layer are considered. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
