A soft x-ray imaging diagnostics has been developed for the study of m
agnetohydrodynamic a activities in the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physi
cs tokamak plasma and also to estimate the plasma electron temperature
. The main feature of this diagnostics is the use of p-i-n photodiodes
, and in this article we present the results of the estimated plasma e
lectron temperature T-e(eV) by the absorber foil method. These values
agree very closely with the estimated values from Spitzer resistivity.
We feel that this technique of using a soft x-ray array for temperatu
re measurement has a good potential for providing very economical T-e(
r,t) measurements with good time and spatial resolution especially for
low budget small tokamaks. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.[S0
