Construction and preliminary characterization of open tubular capillar
y column ion chromatography is described. Increasing the column temper
ature resulted in a dramatic increase of the column efficiency. Two di
fferent kinds of columns were developed and investigated for capillary
ion chromatography. One was a 50 mu m i.d. fused silica capillary tub
ing, and another was a 50 mu m i.d. silica capillary coated with Latex
particles (diameter: about 360nm). Both columns showed good separatio
ns of inorganic anions, although the capillary coated with Latex parti
cles showed much larger retention than a bale silica capillary.
