In December 1996 Slam Cement Co. Ltd. (SCC), the largest cement produc
er in Thailand, successfully commissioned a new cement works in Lampan
g with a planned clinker capacity of 5500 t/d. The cement plant, which
was planned and, with extensive division of the supply and services,
installed by KHD Humboldt Wedag AG of Cologne, came on stream less tha
n 30 months after the contract was signed. The precalciner kiln plant
is interconnected with a Loesche mill. The cement, essentially an OPC
and a Portland limestone cement called ''Tiger Mice Cement'', is produ
ced in three closed-circuit grinding plants equipped with two-chamber,
shoe-bearing, tube mills. The kiln line is fired with lignitic coal a
nd fuel oil. The erection of this cement works has set new standards i
n many respects. As the works was built in a decidedly ''green'' regio
n the layout and environmental protection technology were subject to p
articularly strict standards. Now that the plants have been fitted suc
cessfully into the existing landscape the cement works enjoys a good r
eputation as a showpiece in political, business and scientific circles
in Thailand.
