Abstract
An ideal-type concept of a research-teaching-study nexus points to res earch activity that serves as a mode of teaching and a means of learni ng. In university construction of the nexus, under modem conditions, t he traditional mentor-apprentice relationship has been enlarged into d epartmental frameworks of interrelated teaching groups and research gr oups. A culture of inquiry retains important educational advantages th roughout higher education.
