L. Salmen et Am. Olsson, INTERACTION BETWEEN HEMICELLULOSES, LIGNIN AND CELLULOSE - STRUCTURE-PROPERTY RELATIONSHIPS, Journal of pulp and paper science, 24(3), 1998, pp. 99-103
Measurements were made in humidity scans at 80 degrees C in order to s
tudy the influence of hemicellulose softening on the softening of wood
pulp samples. In native wood, no hemicellulose softening could be det
ected. Delignified samples showed a softening which disappeared when t
he xylan was extracted. No softening of glucomannan could be detected
in samples containing only glucomannan and cellulose. It is suggested
that, in the fibre wall, xylan is associated with the lignin and gluco
mannan with the cellulose.
