A method for the experimental determination of the dissolution rate an
d of the individual mass transfer coefficient during the dissolution o
f a fixed bed formed of spherical particles is proposed in this paper.
Using this method, the mean dissolution rate and the mean individual
mass transfer coefficient are determined experimentally for a fixed be
d of urea particles dissolving in water. The results obtained agree wi
th the data given in literature. The influence of the solvent flowrate
and of temperature on the mean dissolution rate are also studied. (C)
