R. Grandke et H. Simianer, AN APPROACH TO QUANTIFY MANAGEMENT DIFFER ENCES BETWEEN CATTLE-BREEDING PROGRAMS, Archiv fur Tierzucht, 41(1-2), 1998, pp. 143-150
Title of the paper: An approach to quantify management differences bet
ween cattle breeding programs It was attempted to derive objective cri
teria to evaluate the efficiency of dairy cattle breeding programs in
Germany. Based on the 'top-50-sire list' for four years different vari
ables were calculated, Lire the total number of top-50-placements, the
number of top-ranked bulls and the average ranking of those bulls. If
set in relation to the active population size, these figures allow a
differentiated validation of the strenghts and weeknesses of the breed
ing programs. In addition to the tools suggested an efficient controll
ing of the breeding programs requires further criteria quantifying the
performance on the genetic and economic scale.
