Information provided by CT scan allows for determination of the extent
of liver injury and identification of other nonhepatic abdominal inju
ries. This information, coupled with clinical assessment, can be used
to optimize management. Contrast-enhanced CT scan can monitor progress
ion or resolution of hepatic injuries, detect complications, and guide
percutaneous treatment of some complications. This article discusses
CT scanning technique; classification, sites, and mechanisms of liver
injury; CT scan appearance of liver injury; and complications of hepat
ic trauma.
