Change and transition are different concepts. Transition for practitio
ners in the workplace is complex. Transition within roles needs a posi
tive tripartite arrangement with teacher and clinical manager. This pa
per looks at the findings from a study of 100 enrolled nurses undertak
ing a part-time conversion programme to RGN, RMN or RSCN. Evidence sug
gests that student perceptions change over time within a 2-year progra
mme. This conversion programme is seen as a positive experience by par
ticipants and employers.
