Rg. Mistrick et J. Thongtipaya, ANALYSIS OF DAYLIGHT PHOTOCELL PLACEMENT AND VIEW IN A SMALL OFFICE, Journal of the Illuminating Engineering Society, 26(2), 1997, pp. 150
The Radiance lighting analysis and visualization software was used to
analyze the correlation between daylight sensing photocells and availa
ble illuminance from daylight in a small private office with vertical
glazing and dimmed electric lighting. A variety of photocell configura
tions were considered, including unshielded, partially shielded, and f
ully shielded photocells which were mounted in a variety of positions
on the ceiling and walls of a room. Different window orientations and
daylight conditions were also considered. The study was performed with
direct, indirect, and direct-indirect electric lighting systems. The
results provide valuable information regarding photocell configuration
s and mounting locations and their relation to system performance in t
racking interior daylight levels for the lighting conditions tested.
