F. Munakata et al., EFFECTS OF HYDROTHERMAL TREATMENT ON FIRI NG PROCESS OF SILICON-NITRIDE CONTAINING Y2O3-ND2O3 ADDITIVE, Nippon Seramikkusu Kyokai gakujutsu ronbunshi, 106(2), 1998, pp. 208-212
The firing behavior of beta-Si3N4 powder corroded under hydrothermal c
onditions was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) a
nd energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), TEM and EDX analyses su
ggested that the hydrothermal treatment enhanced the formation of tran
sient growth bands in beta-Si3N4 ceramics containing Y2O3-Nd2O3 additi
ve during firing at high temperature. Also, EDX analysis indicated tha
t the grain boundary regions around the grown beta-Si3N4 grains contai
ned a Y-Nd-Si-O-N phase.
