Abstract
We calculate the probability distribution function and the average of the cumulative phase of electromagnetic radiation transmitted through the waveguide with randomly positioned dielectric scatterers. The aver age phase exhibits a crossover from linear to power-law behavior as a function of frequency. A detailed comparison with experimental results is made and a good agreement is found. Our results are consistent wit h the well-known observation that the scattering mean free path is of the order of the size of scatterers.
