The F-19(p, alpha(1)e(-)e(+))O-16 reaction has been investigated with
the aim to employ it for ion beam analysis. An experimental set-up was
designed, in which the a particle was detected in coincidence with ei
ther the emerging electron or the positron. The reaction was studied i
n the energy interval between 2.00 to 2.55 MeV. The minimum detection
limit for thin samples was found to be 30 ng/cm(2) for an integrated b
eam charge of 10 mu C. An analysis of odontological material was perfo
rmed with the technique, The possibility to only utilise the electron-
positron pair for the analysis of fluorine samples is proposed and dis
cussed.
