Although great improvements have been performed in containerless exper
iments, stable levitation of dense and millimeter sized objects still
poses challenges that must be taken up for characterization of materia
ls at very high temperature. This paper presents a new analysis cell d
eveloped for obtaining in situ structural information by X-ray absorpt
ion on samples at very high temperature (up to 2700 K). A gas jet levi
tator has been used in combination with a laser heating. The first str
uctural analysis were carried out on Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG) com
pounds above the melting point by using synchrotron radiation faciliti
es.
