Xl. Liu et W. Liang, ZHEJIANGCUN - SOCIAL AND SPATIAL IMPLICATIONS OF INFORMAL URBANIZATION ON THE PERIPHERY OF BEIJING, Cities, 14(2), 1997, pp. 95-108
The formation of informal settlements on the peripheries of Chinese ci
ties has been a direct outcome of national economic reforms, as previo
us constraints on population movement had served to prevent the moveme
nt of rural migrants into the cities. This article, a compilation of r
eports by two Chinese researchers, examines one such settlement on the
southern border of Beijing, with consideration given to both socio-ec
onomic aspects of the settlement and to administrative implications fo
r land management and planning. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
