Ww. Lin et Dj. Lee, METHANOL FLOW BOILING OVER A NONUNIFORMLY HEATED SURFACE, Journal of the Chinese Institute of Chemical Engineers, 29(1), 1998, pp. 17-23
This work had experimentally investigated the stability characteristic
s of nucleate and film boiling modes of methanol flowing over a nonuni
formly heated flat plate. An axial (discrete) heat flux versus surface
temperature distribution at which nucleate and film boiling can coexi
st steadily is identified at atmospheric and subatmospheric presssures
and three liquid crossflow rates. Below this distribution, nucleate b
oiling mode is more stable; while above which, film boiling is more st
able. Effects of system pressure and liquid crossflow rate were report
ed. This work discussed the co-existing heat fluxes and suggested the
existence of a unique rather than two transition boiling curves, to th
e latter that is generally accepted in the literature, on a conductive
ly heated surface.
