Abstract
Kinetic investigations on the reaction of N,N'-dicyclohexyl-O-(1-methy
lheptyl)is with acetic acid are described. The conversion proceeds par
tly through the intermediacy of a methylheptylcarbenium ion. However,
in dilute solution an S(N)2 mechanism prevails. The results are discus
sed in terms of the simultaneous existence of two discrete mechanisms.
