This paper enhances actual knowledge of the properties of austempered
ductile iron (ADI) as a gear material. Results from scuffing tests per
formed with ADI gears on a FZG test rig are presented and discussed. C
ontact condition analysis is done using elasto-hydrodynamic theory alo
ng with several experimental techniques, as surface electronic scannin
g microscopy, metallurgical spectroscopy and lubricant ferrographic an
