Abstract
This paper addresses the ill-convergence of blind adaptive decision fe edback equalizers using the decision-directed algorithm under a zero i nitialization. In particular, the paper identifies analytically a clas s of channels for which the adaptive equalizer parameters converge to an undesired minimum where incorrect decision estimates can be made un der zero noise. This misbehaviour occurs despite the existence of a DF E parameter setting that perfectly equalizes the channel. (C) 1998 Joh n Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
